FG Launches Nationwide Diabetes Screening Using Locally Made OnPoint Monitoring System

Health

The Federal Government has begun a nationwide diabetes screening and training programme using the locally manufactured OnPoint Blood Glucose Monitoring System produced by Colexa Biosensor Ltd. The initiative kicked off this week in the North Central zone with the training of government health workers across primary healthcare centres (PHCs).

The rollout will expand into a national screening campaign targeting five million Nigerians across all 774 local government areas.

Dr. Alayo Sopekan, National Desk Officer for Diabetes at the Federal Ministry of Health, described diabetes as one of Nigeria’s fastest-growing health challenges. He emphasised the need for early detection, noting that many Nigerians are living with the condition without knowing it. According to him, the programme aims to improve diagnostic access, reduce treatment costs, and strengthen local medical capacity in line with government priorities.

Colexa Biosensor, makers of the OnPoint system, praised the federal government for choosing the firm as a local supplier in the nationwide effort.

Managing Director, Pharm. Kingsley Aguoru, said the partnership reflects growing confidence in Nigeria’s manufacturing sector and reinforces the company’s dedication to delivering reliable diagnostic solutions for early detection and long-term diabetes management.
