The Federal Government has honored Miss Nafisa Abdullah Aminu, a 17-year-old secondary school student from Yobe State, with a N200,000 cash prize after winning the World’s Best in English Language Skills at the 2025 TeenEagle Global Finals in London, United Kingdom.
Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa, and Minister of State for Education, Prof. Suwaiba Sa’id Ahmad, conferred Nafisa’s achievement with the honor at a recognition ceremony in Abuja in the presence of other outstanding Nigerian participants. They referred to her as “a beacon of excellence and inspiration to Nigerian youths.”
Nafisa, representing Nigeria on behalf of the Nigerian Tulip International College (NTIC), beat more than 20,000 competitors from 69 countries including native English-speaking nations to become the global champion. TeenEagle is an internationally acclaimed stage that evaluates learners’ command of English language, analytical skills, and communication.
Dr. Alausa, in his keynote address, spoke of the government’s determination to improving education and reducing Nigeria’s out-of-school children. He asserted that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu had always advocated greater investment in education, health, and social protection, stating:
“You are the future of Nigeria, and you have made us proud. For the first time in our nation’s history, we have one of the highest budgetary allocations to education. Each time we approach the President for support, his answer is a resounding ‘yes’ because he believes in you, the children of Nigeria.”
Besides Nafisa’s N200,000 award, the minister informed her peers who also did better at the competition that they would be awarded more than N100,000 prizes.
Prof. Ahmad commended Nafisa on her courage, wit, and determination, assuring that the federal government would continue offering support to young Nigerians who gain global acclaim for the nation.
“Nigerian youths can compete and excel globally. Nafisa has shown that our nation can stand shoulder-to-shoulder with the best in the world. She is a shining example.”
Responding, Nafisa thanked President Tinubu, the ministry of education, her school, and her parents for the support, vowing to continue working hard to inspire others.
