Governor Inuwa Yahaya Applauds Tinubu for Approving Degree Programmes at FCE (Technical) Gombe

Governor Muhammadu Yahaya

Gombe State Governor, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, has praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for approving the commencement of degree programmes at the Federal College of Education (Technical) Gombe, calling it a major milestone in enhancing the institution’s capacity to train future professionals.

The governor made these remarks when he received the Governing Council and Management of the College during a courtesy visit to the Government House, Gombe. He emphasized that Nigeria’s greatest asset is its youthful population, stressing the need for quality education and skills development to drive national progress.

Commitment to Educational Development

Governor Yahaya urged the management of FCE (Technical) Gombe to leverage this opportunity by designing high-quality degree programmes aligned with Nigeria’s industrial and technological needs. He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to education, citing initiatives like:

  1. Establishing the Faculty of Environmental Sciences at Gombe State University’s Dukku campus.
  2. Collaborating with Michigan University to establish a Faculty of Agriculture.
  3. Executing a 22-kilometer gully erosion control project benefiting the college and surrounding communities.

The governor immediately directed the Commissioner for Higher Education to engage with the college’s leadership to identify priority areas for government intervention.

College Leadership Expresses Gratitude

Earlier, Dr. Lazarus Gaza, Chairman of the Governing Council, commended Governor Yahaya’s investment in education and support for federal institutions in Gombe. He highlighted the college’s integration of skill and vocational training into its curriculum to promote self-reliance and announced that FCE (Technical) Gombe is now set to offer degree programmes independently.

Dr. Gaza also praised the governor’s mega schools initiative aimed at reducing the number of out-of-school children in the state. Additionally, Professor Ali Adamu, Provost of the College, expressed the institution’s willingness to collaborate with the state government on vocational skills training, particularly for youth empowerment.
