Hilda Baci Feeds Hundreds of Lagos Residents After Record-Breaking Jollof Rice Cook-Off

Celebrity chef Hilda Baci touched hearts across Lagos after sharing massive portions of jollof rice with residents following her latest Guinness World Record attempt.

The generous gesture came after Hilda cooked what she aimed to be the largest pot of Nigerian-style jollof rice on September 12, 2025, at Eko Hotel and Suites in Lagos.

The star-studded event drew celebrities including Nollywood actress Funke Akindele, dancer Kaffy, and Ogun State First Lady Bamidele Abiodun.

Not wanting any food to go to waste, Hilda made a heartfelt public appeal to Lagosians: “There is food, please you guys come and get food—it’s a lot and I can’t waste it.

The food is good, so come with your cooler. We still have so much food even after all the packaging. I won’t leave here until everybody in Lagos tastes this food.”

A viral TikTok video showed her team distributing hundreds of plates to eager residents.

After sharing portions at the venue, they moved the remaining food to Gbagada to reach more people in the community.

The initiative caused passionate discussions online. While many celebrated Hilda’s generosity and community spirit, others had mixed feelings about the approach.

Some fans praised her dedication to feeding people and creating unity through food.

Others suggested alternative distribution methods, with some recommending she take food to prisons or questioning whether the upscale Eko Hotel location made it harder for those most in need to access the meals.
