Hilda Baci is back, and this time she’s going big with jollof rice. The Nigerian food influencer who became a household name with her marathon cooking sessions has just kicked off what she’s calling the world’s largest jollof rice cook-off, and Lagos is absolutely buzzing.
The massive event is happening at Eko Hotel and Suites, where crowds have gathered to watch Hilda attempt to make history once again.
She first teased this ambitious project on Instagram back in August, and judging by the turnout, Nigerians have been counting down the days.
Anyone who followed Hilda’s journey knows she’s no stranger to breaking boundaries in the kitchen. Back in May 2023, she had the entire country glued to their screens during her epic cooking marathon.
Though she was eventually overtaken by Alan Fisher, who managed an incredible 119 hours and 57 minutes, Hilda proved that Nigerian determination could capture global attention.
Before both of them, India’s Lata Tondon held the record at 87 hours and 45 minutes – a feat that involved feeding thousands of people in her community.
If the videos on Hilda’s YouTube channel are anything to go by – and with over 60,000 subscribers watching – this jollof challenge is pulling serious crowds.
The energy is infectious, with people dancing, cheering, and clearly having the time of their lives.
The comments section is pure comedy gold, with fans bringing their A-game humor:
“As you de dance for there hold your phone tight, as hunger de men eyes still de sharpen kwa 😂,” joked Jesse Mk, clearly understanding the struggle of being around that much delicious food.
Mark Holiboi captured the national mood perfectly: “NAIJA dey para. We all want to be witnesses 😂😂🤣.”
Peace Chukuwa had everyone cracking up with a practical suggestion: “One person should be in charge of stamping people’s forehead oo… to know those who have collected plate of jollof rice and those that have not 🧐.”
Jennifer kept it real about Nigerian priorities: “E be like you never know how hunger dey kpia people for this Nigeria 😂🤣.”
And Emmanuel Eczema defended the crowd’s intentions: “No be hunger cause this one. Na support.”
