Jaywon Slams Billboard Over Omission of ‘This Year’ From Afrobeats All-Time List

Nigerian artist Oluwajuwonlo Iledare, known professionally as Jaywon, has lamented that his 2012 hit song, This Year, was not included in Billboard’s recently released list of the Top 50 Best Afrobeats Songs of All Time.

In a post on his X handle, the artist protested that none of the songs listed have had as much culture as his evergreen record.

This Year’ by Jaywon had more going-viral moments and culture-pop relevance than some songs Billboard decided to chart. Trending since 2012 and still trending. Tell me, who else did that?” he wrote.

Jaywon further stated that the gospel and Afrobeats artists have always employed the style of the song throughout the years, asserting that it remains a cultural anthem.

He went on to say: “Cry louder, I said it earlier, and I will say it again. None of the songs on that list has greater cultural significance than #ThisYear by Jaywon.”

Billboard had placed 2Face’s African Queen as the greatest Afrobeats song of all time, followed by Wizkid’s Ojuelegba, Flavour’s Nwa Baby, Rema’s Calm Down, and CKay’s Love Nwantiti in the top five.
