Kidnapped Seminarian Dies in Captivity as Edo Police Rescue Catholic Priest

It was a tragedy in Edo State as a kidnapped seminarian, Peter Andrew, who was kidnapped alongside a Catholic priest, lost his life in captivity with his abductors.

Andrew and Rev. Fr. Philip Ekeli were kidnapped on March 3 at St. Peter Catholic Church, Iviukha, in Etsako East Local Government Area. Fr. Ekeli was released but Andrew did not survive.

Verifying the occurrence on Friday, March 14, Edo Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), CSP Moses Yamu, revealed that police operation and members of local vigilante arrested the kidnapper and freed Fr. Ekeli on March 13 at around 4:52 p.m. in Amughe community.

“Bush combing continues, with a view to recovering the body of the seminarian, who sadly perished during the operation, and arresting the remaining members of the gang,” Yamu said.
