Makinde Pledges Readiness to Host Super Eagles Match in Ibadan

Seyi Makinde

Oyo State governor Seyi Makinde has reaffirmed his government’s willingness to provide the infrastructure and assistance needed to host a Super Eagles game at the Lekan Salami Stadium, Ibadan.

Speaking to the people on Saturday in opening the 81st Annual General Assembly of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Makinde indicated that his government was willing to incur expenditure in developing facilities when needed.

We are ready in Oyo State to receive the Super Eagles. Let us examine what we have in the Lekan Salami Stadium and identify what needs to be improved. I assure you, we shall invest the needed resources,” he said.

The governor was equally appreciative of the leadership of the NFF for its battle in revamping football at the domestic league and grassroots levels. He further proposed a one-term tenor for sports administrators in Nigeria for the sake of enhancing accountability, stability, and performance.

In his address, NFF President Ibrahim Gusau congratulated Makinde on his interest in sporting development and gave assurance that a Super Eagles game would be arranged in Oyo State before 2027 as an appreciation gesture.

Similarly, ex-NFF President Amaju Pinnick urged stakeholders to rally behind the present Federation leadership.
