The tenure of the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, has been extended by one year, as announced by the Presidency. Leadership.ng reported that prior to the extension, Adeniyi’s tenure was scheduled to end on August 31, 2025.
According to a statement on Thursday by presidential spokesman, Bayo Onanuga, the extension, which was approved by President Bola Tinubu, will enable Adeniyi to consolidate ongoing reforms and complete critical initiatives of this administration.
These were highlighted in the statement to include the modernization of the Nigeria Customs Service, the implementation of the National Single Window Project, and the execution of Nigeria’s obligations under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) protocol.
“Adeniyi’s steadfast leadership and commitment to service are recognized by President Tinubu. The President is confident that this extension will further strengthen the Nigeria Customs Service in achieving its strategic mandate of trade facilitation, revenue generation, and border security,” he added.
