NMA Anambra Denies EFCC Officer’s Killer is a Doctor, Demands Media Correction

EFCC

The Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) Anambra State Chapter has stepped forward to clear the air about the suspect accused of killing an EFCC official, firmly stating that he is not a licensed medical doctor nor affiliated with their organization. In a statement released Monday by the State Secretary, Dr. Obiaeli Ifeanyi, the association addressed widespread media reports that had incorrectly identified the suspect, Joshua Chukwubueze Ikechukwu, as a medical professional.

The NMA expressed concern over the misuse of the title “medical doctor,” noting that such false claims damage the reputation of the medical profession. Their investigation revealed that despite dealing in medical supplies, Ikechukwu has no connection to the medical field as a practitioner.

“Following our investigation, we can confirm that Joshua Chukwubueze Ikechukwu is neither employed by NAUTH, as verified by the hospital’s management, nor is he a member of the NMA Awka Zone,” the statement clarified.

“No member of our association has identified him as a colleague.”

The organization called for immediate action from media outlets, requesting a retraction of all publications that incorrectly labeled the suspect as a medical doctor. They also urged journalists to conduct thorough fact-checking before publishing such claims in the future.
