Traditional rulers in Ondo State are singing the praises of Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa after he presented them with brand-new Toyota SUVs, a move they say shows real respect for their role in the community.
The ceremony in Akure brought together royal fathers from all 18 local government areas.
The monarchs thanked the governor for strengthening his relationship with traditional institutions and called it another example of his hands-on leadership style.
Aiyedatiwa explained the decision was rooted in his administration’s appreciation for the critical work traditional leaders do in governance, keeping the peace, and building up communities.
“Our royal fathers are key partners in moving this state forward,” Aiyedatiwa said. “Taking care of them will always be a priority for us.”
Grade ‘A’ Obas received 2025 Toyota Fortuners, while Grade ‘B’ and ‘C’ Obas are set to get 2025 Toyota Cross models soon.
The governor stressed the vehicles weren’t just about comfort, they were a sign of honour and gratitude for the monarchs’ service.
He also pointed to other wins under his watch, including finishing the long-stalled Council of Obas Secretariat and ensuring traditional institutions consistently receive their five per cent share from local government funds.
Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Alhaji Amidu Takuro, called the SUVs a thank-you gift for the monarchs’ efforts in keeping communities stable and driving development forward.
He encouraged the traditional rulers to put the vehicles to good use in serving their people and assured them the government would continue working closely with them.
Wrapping up, Governor Aiyedatiwa thanked the monarchs for their partnership and dedication, noting that their work at the grassroots level and in preserving culture remains essential to Ondo State’s growth.
