Osun Judicial Workers Embark on Strike Over Welfare, Promotions

Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN) Osun State branch directed its members to withdraw their services and stay away from work, following unsolved grievances with the state’s Judicial Service Commission.

In a letter under its chairman, Comrade Idris Adeniran, published in Osogbo, the union clarified that the strike action became unavoidable after the Commission, led by Chief Judge Adepele Ojo, failed to respond to their ultimatum despite receiving a letter dated September 3, 2025.

Earlier in the week, JUSUN called for the immediate intervention in staff welfare and the consideration of 2024/2025 promotions. Adeniran attributed the blame to the Judicial Service Commission for avoiding its responsibility of ensuring industrial harmony, insisting again that the promotions should be looked into without delay.

The union also called for sponsorship of judiciary workers for capacity-building and training programs at the National Judicial Institute (NJI).

Adeniran further intimated that the other parastatals and ministries in the state had received their sanctioned benefits, but judiciary workers were being marginalized.

“The refusal to grant us our demands constitutes a disregard for the rule of law and industrial peace. With no option, we have no choice but to take stern measures,” the statement added.

This is the second significant strike by Osun judiciary workers in recent history. They had earlier suspended a three-month strike on March 11, 2024, after momentarily agreeing with the authorities.
