Plateau State Governor Announces Massive Youth Recruitment Drive for Community Security Initiative

Governor Caleb Mutfwang has revealed ambitious plans to bring over 1,000 young people into Plateau State‘s community policing program, Operation Rainbow, as part of his administration’s push to strengthen grassroots security across the region.

Speaking at St. Theresa Catholic Church in Jos on Sunday during a special service marking the start of the 2025/2026 Legal Year, Mutfwang shared his vision with an audience of judges, lawyers, religious leaders, and key figures from the state’s justice system.

The governor used the occasion to reflect on both challenges and progress since taking office.

“When we came into power, we inherited a judiciary facing serious difficulties,” he acknowledged, praising judicial officers for their unwavering commitment despite these obstacles.

“You’ve stood firm and continued serving with both courage and dignity.”

Mutfwang also provided updates on efforts to improve conditions for retired judges, confirming that work has begun on settling outstanding payments owed to former judicial officers.

While admitting the process remains incomplete, he expressed confidence that these financial obligations would be fully resolved.

In addressing the judiciary directly, the governor emphasized the weight of judicial responsibility, reminding legal professionals that their decisions carry lasting consequences and urging careful consideration in all rulings.

The headline announcement came when Mutfwang outlined his security expansion plans.

The new recruits will return to their home communities as frontline defenders, working alongside traditional security forces to create a more robust protective network across Plateau State.

“These young people will serve as both the first and last line of defense in their communities, supporting our conventional security agencies,” the governor explained.

The announcement comes amid ongoing security challenges in the region, with Mutfwang taking a firm stance against those who profit from instability.

He called for greater unity among Christians and all citizens to build lasting peace and drive meaningful progress throughout the state.

“Our only goal is to leave Plateau State better than we found it,” Mutfwang declared. “There may be obstacles ahead, but we’re determined to overcome them.”
