Captain Oluranti Ogoyi never expected her Tuesday morning flight would end with her being suspended from flying.
But that’s exactly what happened after a heated confrontation with legendary Fuji musician King Wasiu Ayinde Marshal—better known as K1 De Ultimate—at Abuja’s main airport.
The incident on August 5th has left both Ogoyi and her co-pilot, Flight Officer Ivan Oloba, grounded by Nigeria’s aviation authority, while K1 himself faces a six-month flight ban.
Now, Ogoyi is sharing her version of what really went down that morning.
According to a statement she gave, everything started normally enough.
Passengers began boarding Flight VK201 to Lagos at 8:10 a.m., and K1 showed up just five minutes later carrying what appeared to be a gold flask.
That’s when things got complicated.
Ground staff, just doing their job, asked to check what was inside the flask—standard security protocol for any container boarding a Nigerian flight.
But K1 wasn’t having it, especially after staff noticed him drinking from it and suspected it might contain alcohol.
“He was seen drinking from it, and staff suspected it contained alcohol, which is not allowed onboard Nigerian flights,” Ogoyi explained.
When asked to open the flask, the music icon reportedly wasn’t interested in cooperating.
“Do you know who I am? You have no right to tell me to open my flask,” he allegedly told the staff.
Security personnel tried again when he reached the aircraft stairs, but according to Ogoyi, K1 became even more confrontational, holding up the entire boarding process. That’s when she decided to step in personally.
“I left the cockpit to speak with him calmly,” she recalled. What happened next caught everyone off guard: “Without warning, he poured the contents of the flask on me, the security team, and some passengers nearby.”
The situation escalated quickly. Airport security had to intervene, and their head of security made the call that K1 shouldn’t be allowed on the flight. Ogoyi backed the decision—passenger and crew safety had to come first.
But the drama wasn’t over. Even after the plane doors were sealed shut, Ogoyi says K1 remained near the aircraft, continuing to block normal operations. She had to make an announcement to passengers explaining the delay.
“After the aircraft doors were closed, I saw Mr. Ayinde still near the plane, blocking movement.
I made a public announcement to explain the delay, and once security cleared him from the area, we departed for Lagos at 8:50 a.m.,” she said.
