President Bola Tinubu is currently hosting Rivers State Governor Sim Fubara and a delegation of Ogoni leaders at the Presidential Villa, Abuja. The meeting, held at the Council Chambers on Tuesday afternoon, includes prominent figures from four local government areas of Ogoniland. Governor Fubara arrived alongside Senator Lee Maeba, with a delegation comprising Senators Magnus Abe, Olaka Nwogu, Barry Mpigi, and Bennett Birabi, as well as Chief Victor Giadom, Chief Kenneth Kobani, Leedom Mitee, Prof. B. Fakae, and Monsignor Pius Kii, among others.
Several members of Tinubu’s cabinet are also present, including National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu, Chief of Staff Femi Gbajabiamila, Minister of Information Idris Mohammed, Minister of Regional Development Abubakar Momoh, Minister of Environment Balarabe Abbas, and NNPC Group CEO Mele Kyari.
While the agenda has not been disclosed, the meeting is expected to focus on key issues such as the Ogoni clean-up project and the resumption of oil exploration in Ogoniland.
The Federal Government has expressed concerns over the prolonged cessation of oil activities in the region, with potential discussions aimed at addressing environmental restoration and economic revitalization.
