Uganda’s head coach, Paul Put, has acknowledged the formidable strength of the Super Eagles of Nigeria as his team prepares for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON). The Cranes have been drawn into Group C alongside Nigeria, Tunisia, and Tanzania, setting up a challenging path to the knockout stages. The East African side famously defeated Nigeria 2-1 in their only AFCON meeting at the 1978 tournament in Ghana.
Speaking after the draw ceremony in Rabat, Morocco, Put admitted that Uganda would need self-belief to advance from the tough group.
“There are no easy games in Africa. We are going to face Nigeria, the last edition’s finalists, and Tunisia, a team that consistently reaches the latter stages of this tournament. Tanzania adds the derby element, which is always intense. However, we must believe in ourselves,” the Belgian tactician stated.
Uganda will face Tanzania in their final Group C fixture on Tuesday, December 30, in Fez, Morocco.
