The Federal Government has announced plans to ensure the full digitalization of the FEC’s operations by December 2025, a key milestone in the quest towards achieving a paperless government.
This is sequel to the signing of the MoU between the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (OSGF) and the National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI) on digital transformation of FEC activities through the Cabinet Affairs Office (CAO).
Speaking at the signing ceremony, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, who was represented by the Permanent Secretary, Cabinet Affairs Office, Dr. Emanso Okop Umobong, described the project as a landmark step in the modernization of governance toward improving efficiency in documentation and record management.
The OSGF’s Director of Information, Segun Imohiosen, quoted Akume as stating that the gesture is a perfect reflection of President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which places key importance on technology-driven governance, innovation, and institutional efficiency.
“Digitalisation of the Cabinet Affairs Office will significantly lessen the burden of Honourable Ministers, who are currently handling voluminous documents during Council meetings,” he said. “By December 2025, we are confident that the Federal Executive Council will operate completely paperless.”
In his remarks, NASENI’s Executive Vice Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Khalil Suleiman Halilu said that given the agency’s expertise in technology innovation and digital infrastructure, it is best placed to assist the federal government in this transformation.
According to him, “Our collaboration with the OSGF will not only enhance efficiency within the FEC but also set a new benchmark for digital governance in Nigeria.”
