Jennifer Elobor was just trying to stay in her lodge like any other National Youth Service Corps member when her world turned violent.
Armed security operatives stormed the building where she and other corps members were staying, and despite showing their NYSC uniforms and identification cards, the officers accused them of being internet fraudsters.
What happened next was captured on video that has horrified Nigerians nationwide. Elobor was beaten repeatedly as she cried for help.
Her clothes were torn during the assault, leaving her exposed and humiliated. The disturbing footage sparked immediate outrage and demands for justice.
The Anambra State Government has now confirmed that the security operatives responsible for the assault have been arrested and detained.
Ken Emeakayi, Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s Special Adviser on Community Security, didn’t mince words when describing the incident on television Tuesday morning. He called the assault “unfortunate and unacceptable.”
The operatives involved were part of Agbunezemba, a state security outfit created under the Anambra State Homeland Security Law 2025.
They were participating in Operation Udo Gatchi, a joint security mission that includes police, army, DSS, civil defense, and state security personnel.
“While the operatives were on the trail of some suspected cultists riding motorcycles, they entered the compound and, in the process of conducting searches, the unfortunate incident involving the corps member occurred,” Emeakayi explained.
The officers didn’t escape consequences. Emeakayi confirmed they were immediately arrested and placed in detention after the incident.
Preliminary investigations are now underway to determine whether they’ll face internal disciplinary action or full prosecution.
“I personally met with Miss Elobor and NYSC officials to hear their account of the incident. Disciplinary steps are already being taken,” he said.
The adviser made clear that Governor Soludo’s administration has zero tolerance for security personnel who abuse their power, especially against innocent citizens.
