In a tragic incident on Thursday afternoon, an unidentified woman jumped from the Third Mainland Bridge into the Lagos Lagoon, leading to her untimely death despite swift rescue efforts. The incident occurred at around 4 p.m. near the University of Lagos (UNILAG) waterfront.
Marine police officers on patrol in the area sped to the scene and pulled her body from the UNILAG shore slipway. Unfortunately, despite efforts, medical staff at the university confirmed that she did not survive.
Lagos State Police Command spokesperson, Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the incident on Friday. The police took her body to the Infectious Disease Hospital (IDH) Mortuary in Yaba for preservation after her death. The police are trying to establish the woman’s identity and the reasons behind the incident.
