Arokodare’s Strike Seals Super Eagles’ 1-0 Win Over Rwanda, Revives World Cup Hopes

Nigeria’s Super Eagles Saturday evening sparked their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualification campaign with a gritty 1-0 victory over Rwanda at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.

After a dismal first half marred by the premature loss of talismanic forward Victor Osimhen Nigeria, at long last, turned the tables to score the opening goal in the 51st minute. Substitute Tolu Arokodare found the net five minutes after coming on to secure a precious win for the Eagles.

The victory puts Nigeria in third place in Group D with 10 points from seven matches. South Africa are leading the group with 16 points, while Benin Republic is second with 11 points.

The Super Eagles will then focus on another make-or-break match as they travel to South Africa for a do-or-die affair with Bafana Bafana on Sunday.
