Lagos police have officially closed the book on Pastor Paul Adefarasin’s headline-grabbing confrontation with a content creator, announcing Tuesday that no charges will be filed against the prominent cleric.
The House on the Rock founder found himself in hot water back in June when a viral video showed him brandishing what appeared to be a weapon at someone filming his car near the Lekki-Ikoyi roundabout.
The footage caused intense debate across social media, with many questioning the pastor’s actions and calling for police intervention.
After months of investigation, Lagos State Police Command spokesperson SP Abimbola Adebisi revealed that the object in question was actually a stun gun – not a firearm or any other deadly weapon as some had speculated.
The distinction proved crucial in the police’s decision to drop the case.
“We thoroughly interrogated Pastor Adefarasin and obtained a cautionary statement,” Adebisi explained in the official announcement.
“After careful review, we found no sufficient grounds to pursue the matter further. The case has therefore been discontinued.”
The incident had put one of Nigeria’s most recognizable religious leaders under unprecedented scrutiny.
Pastor Adefarasin, who leads one of Lagos’s largest congregations, had remained relatively quiet about the controversy while police conducted their investigation.
The viral nature of the confrontation highlighted growing tensions between public figures and content creators in Lagos, where filming celebrities and influential people has become increasingly common.
Many observers saw the case as a test of how law enforcement would handle disputes between high-profile individuals and ordinary citizens armed with smartphones.
The content creator who filmed the incident had alleged that the pastor’s response was excessive and threatening.
However, the police investigation appears to have concluded that while the pastor’s reaction may have been heated, it didn’t cross legal boundaries.
Lagos police emphasized their commitment to fair investigations regardless of an individual’s status or influence.
“We remain dedicated to upholding the rule of law, ensuring public safety, and maintaining transparency in all our investigations,” the command stated.
