The Federal Government has called off the Independence Day parade scheduled for Wednesday, October 1, 2025, as Nigeria marks 65 years of independence.
Segun Imohiosen, Director of Information and Public Relations at the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, announced the cancellation on Monday.
The statement didn’t explain why the parade was cancelled, but stressed that the decision “is in no way a diminishment of the significance of this milestone anniversary.”
Other planned Independence Day events will go ahead as scheduled, and the government says the anniversary will still be celebrated “with dignity and enthusiasm.”
The Federal Government apologized for any inconvenience and asked Nigerians, diplomats, and invited guests for their understanding and support of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s reform agenda.
“The Federal Government appreciates the understanding, support, and cooperation of all Nigerians, members of the diplomatic community, and invited guests, and urges Nigerians to support the reforms of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, in making Nigeria a greater nation,” the statement read.
Wednesday, October 1 remains a public holiday across the country.
